Stephen Hawking has one of the finest minds known to man today. He has been married and divorced 2 times. He has continued his education throughout his life. He is a published author. He has 3 wonderful children. He has accomplished a great many things in his time here on earth. He is has made it well into his 70’s now. This alone is an amazing feat considering his health problems. You see, Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS when he was 21 and he was not expected to see his 25th birthday but that was not even enough to hold down this man. He has had years to further the knowledge of physics and that time was used very wisely.
Hawking is a famous theoretical physicist. He has had ALS for much of the time he has been in the public eye. It seems to have barely slowed him down considering that most people who are diagnosed with this devastating disease are done so after the age of 50 & nearly all die with in 5 years. Despite the daunting odds Hawking has thrived in the scientific community. He has spent much of his time helping bring the ideas behind his ideas on black holes and quantum gravity to a broad public audience. All this despite having to speak via his trademark computer system. He controls this computer through his cheek.
Hawking spent 30 years as a full professor of mathematics at The University of Cambridge. He is currently passing his time as the Director of Research at the school’s Center for Theoretical Cosmology. A position that would fully occupy the time of any normal 76 year old man. This leads me to the conclusion that Hawking is no ordinary man. It is quite obvious by these facts alone that he is quite extra – ordinary. Not only has he continued to teach through the years he has also lectured regularly though not as regularly as he might have hoped. He has done much more than his part in furthering mankind’s understanding of the universe and for that we should all be truly thankful.
Hawking has discussed from time to time his opinion about religion. He puts it very plainly when delivering his view that there is no god. Hawking believes that the universe is governed by the laws of science. He feels very strongly that there is no God in addition he feels that there is no after – life or Heaven either. He says that such tales are for people who are afraid of the dark. He does see the beauty in this scenario though. Hawking states “We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that, I am extremely grateful.”
